reported an
E.E. Communique-General at Rotterdam on the 9th April that "Wlf's Aromatic Schiedam" was being sold very largely in British Colonies through Blankenhayn & Jolet of Rotterdam.
They are keeping "Telfu's" trade going for them and are manufacturing the goods in Holland.
Maxse reported on the 8th May that Blankenhayn & Jolet formerly exported spirits in barrels to the Wolfe Co. of Hamburg, who used to bottle them and put on their own labels.
The whole transaction has been performed in Schiedam.
Major Phillips' list (C.I.D. 406) states that "Wolfe & Blankenhagen Belet Rotterdam" are agents for "Udolpho Telfe Co., Hamburg" and that Rotterdam wired to Hamburg on the 1st February 1915 (presumably to America).
Funds were remitted just after 28th January 1910. Moss is no doubt X. Moss & Co. of Hamburg already referred to.
Major Phillips noted that the funds were sent through the Nationale Bank B.Y. and that a later telegram stated "ammunition contract 60000 cases".
The Hamburg Directory for 1915 shows that Udolpho Telfe Co. was still established at Hamburg.
There is nothing to show that this is a shipping office of the firm; it is described as a "Likörhandlung" and the names bracketed against the firm are: W.H. du Temple de Rengamont and E. Thorne.
The Udolpho Telfe Co. is also established at New York, and the Treasurer of the Company in Jamaica is E. Thorne.
We venture to suggest that a copy of this minute be also transmitted to the Foreign Office if it may be thought proper.
